Answering God's Call
In October 2009 Rick and Tosh Pearson heard the call to help feed the hungry in Northwest Arkansas through a Bible study at their church. As part of this study the couple was asked to serve a day in the community, so they chose Samaritan Community Center where they had volunteered in years past.
"When we arrived at the center we were surprised to see that the food pantry was nearly empty," says Tosh. "We left heart-broken that so many people were turned away because there was no food."
Troubled by what they were learning, Tosh and Rick wondered what they could do to help. The very week the Pearsons served at Samaritan, their Bible study memory verse was Luke 10:2 - And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest." It was then that God began directing the Pearsons to become laborers in His harvest.
"We determined ... that stuff is a burden," says Rick. "We had packed, loaded and unpacked things we had not used in years."
Tosh and Rick discussed how they could turn their “stuff” into food, and after a visit with Debbie Rambo, Samaritan Community Center Executive Director, the Pearsons quit their jobs and set to work opening a second Samaritan Shop in Rogers.
On August 19, 2010 SCC opened a 25,000 square foot Samaritan Shop in Frisco Station Mall and the rest, as they say, is history. So, if you live in Benton county consider donating your "stuff" to the Samaritan Shop. The "stuff" you donate and/or buy at the Samaritan Shop today will help feed the hurting and hungry of NWA tomorrow.
